Express Stay Perfect at Colosseum

(Windsor, ON) – Wednesday was the date of one of the most anticipated events in Windsor sports. The Clash at the Colosseum IV took place Wednesday night at Caesars Windsor Casino in front of an energetic and packed crowd.

The day was filled with basketball excitement. Earlier in the day the University of Windsor men’s and women’s basketball teams took on the Laurier Golden Hawks in an attempt to protect home court from a Waterloo takeover. Both the men’s and women’s Lancers teams won close games, including a half court buzzer beater from Mike Rocca which was needed to get a win for the men’s team.

The Windsor Express took on the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans in their portion of the basketball triple-header. This was the fourth time the Express played the Titans this season. Windsor was trying to get themselves out of last place in the Central Division and give the largest crowd of the season something to cheer about.

The game started out all Windsor. The Express went on a 15-5 opening run led by Quinnel Brown. Despite Windsor being one of the league’s worst rebounding teams, they were even with Kitchener-Waterloo in total rebounds at half, both with 22. Windsor continued their first half dominance into the second quarter, going on 12-2 in the second. The game looked like it would get out of hand early. Nick Evans had 12 points and Juan Pattillo added seven rebounds at half which helped Windsor get out to a 43-39 lead.

Kitchener-Waterloo would not go away in the second half. Massive contributions from their bench and an elite three point shooting performance by the team as a whole allowed them to take the lead in the second half. Despite Windsor capitalizing for 21 on 17 Kitchener-Waterloo turnovers, the Express trailed by five with four minutes to play. A 12-1 run was capped off by a Wally Ellenson go-ahead three, which gave Windsor a seven point lead.

That was all the offense the Express needed to remain undefeated in the Colosseum. The Windsor Express would defeat the Kitchener-Waterloo Titans 93-90 to move to 4-0 all-time at Caesars Windsor Casino.

Quinnel Brown was named player of the game following his 19 point, three rebound and three assist performance.

After another great night at the casino, Windsor travels to Orangeville next to take on the A’s. The game is in Orangeville and is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. tip off on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017.
